Taste Buds and Tax Time

Hello blog world! How’s everyone’s hump day going so far? I didn’t get up and run this morning, so it was kind of nice to sleep in a bit. It was rainy and dark outside, so I was happy to snuggle under the covers. Here is a quick run-down of yesterday’s eats.

Yesterday, after my run with Katherine, I had a lightish breakfast of an English muffin with peanut butter and jelly. We were all out of bananas. Sadness.

As I headed to work I was hit with a big wave of hunger and knew I needed to stop for something else to nosh on before I got into work. I stopped at the little shop next door and got a coffee, banana and seltzer. For some reason, I was really craving seltzer water, which is not a normal thing for me.

Changing Taste Buds
I’ve never really been a fan of seltzer water until I had it a few weeks ago at my old boss’s apartment. It’s so funny how your tastes can change just like that! I also didn’t used to like onions or tomatoes and now I love both!

Do you have any foods or drinks like that – that you disliked for a long time and then all of a sudden discovered you enjoy?

Coffee is another one for me. I never drank it until my first job out of college and I’ve been hooked ever since. I also don’t know how I got through 8:00 a.m. classes in college without coffee.

So I ate my second breakfast and then didn’t have lunch till around 1:30. I picked up a salad and some salt and vinegar pop chips.

Later in the afternoon I snacked on a chobani yogurt with kashi go lean cereal and a Larabar.

After work I headed home and quickly gathered my stuff to head to our tax preparer. I barely had time to think about dinner, so I ended up just chowing down on a bowl of Kashi Heart to Heart cereal with a little bit of granola and almond milk.

Tax Time!
The Hubby and I filed jointly for the first time this year and boy does the government like to tax married people. We didn’t end up owing anything, which is good, but we didn’t get as much back as we wanted either.

I used to love tax season because I would get a nice big refund check. Now I get more nervous that we’ll have to pay.

Do you love or hate tax season?

I’m just glad we got that over with.

  1. I hate tax season! I know what you mean about dwindling refunds…we even had a baby last year, and aren’t getting back much…it sucks:)

  2. I love salt and vinegar pop chips! They are soo good. I used to never like salads and now I find myself craving them sometimes. Also, sushi! I would have never touched it when I was younger, now it is one of my favorite foods!

I’m not excited for tax season. It’s my last one filing as a single though! 🙂 I think I am breaking even, which is better than owing I suppose. Have a great rest of the day!

  3. I HATE tax season! We always end up owing and it’s such a sad day when I have to write those checks.

I’ve definitely learned to like foods that I used to hate. I usually pick something every few months and just make it a mission to learn to like it. So far, so good, since it’s brought tasty treats like yogurt, avocado, raw peppers and bananas into my life 😉

  4. I hated asparagus, broccoli, and mushrooms until about two or three years ago. I can’t believe I lived without them- what a sad sad life that must have been… :p

  5. So glad I got to see you the other night!

As far as changing tastes, I used to despise coffee (even coffee ice cream!). That all changed about 3 1/2 years ago when I started my first full-time job…

  6. Sadly some things I used to hate and now like are ketchup and icing. My healthy taste preferences have never changed, but when I was preggo with M ketchup and icing suddenly became a favorite when before the tastes disgusted me. Still love them now. Why couldn’t she have made me like fish? A food I have never loved in its non-sushi form.

  7. I’ve definitely noticed my tastebuds change – I used to really dislike a lot of vegetables, but now I love them!

I love tax time – one benefit of being a student! 🙂

  8. Okay I am FINALLY coming over to your blog after hearing GREAT things about it! Love it! Can’t wait to keep following along!

  9. I used to hate brussels sprouts… now I cannot get enough.

Tax season is good to us this year….. or at least appears to be wanting to be good to us this year…..

  10. We were vegetarian growing up and I hated cheese because we ate it all the time. I took a 5 or 6 year cheese hiatus – and then I snacked on some sharp cheddar one day and fell in love. I think I eat cheese every day now.
By the way sometimes i get a weird seltzer craving!
