Easing Back Into Healthy Habits

Good morning all. Happy Tuesday – back to work for many of us who enjoyed an extra day off yesterday. I don’t know about you, but I definitely enjoyed it and needed it.

I started the day yesterday with a breakfast of Kashi Autumn Wheat with almond milk and light cranberry juice. Please forgive my atrocious bowl.

For lunch I snacked on some Garlic Herb Triscuits (these can be a bit much if you get a really seasoned cracker). When Hubby went to the store a little while ago, they only had flavored Triscuits – so I gave these a shot. They weren’t too bad. I also had an apple with peanut butter, a big glass of water and some raisins.

After lunch I finished up two loads of laundry and then decided it was time for a quick run. My marathon training plan only called for a 3-mile run, but I ended up doing almost 4 miles. Here are my stats:

Mile 1 – 8:10
Mile 2 – 8:30
Mile 3 – 8:51
Mile 4 – 8:13
Total of 3.97 miles in 33:46

After my run, Hubby came home from his trip upstate and I helped him unload the car. Chobani yogurt was on sale for 99 cents in Albany (whoohoo), so I had him stock up! Dinner was lazy – I ate more triscuits (not pictured) and had a few pickles and a yogurt with granola.

After dinner, I reluctantly turned on The Bachelor. I swore to my friend this weekend that I was done watching it and that I had only watched last week’s episode to see what the “big drama” was. But alas, Hubby and I wound up sitting through another two hours of the show. I thought Elizabeth was the prettiest on the show (Hubby called her “Megan Fox-esque,” but I agree that she was playing games with him. Bet she regrets that now.

Anyone else out there still watching The Bachelor?

There were definitely two girls I didn’t know at all – one of them was eliminated (the long dark hair), but who the heck is that short girl with dark hair (I think she was wearing a sparkly dress)? She keeps making it through and I never see her at all. She’ll probably win. I am glad that crazy Michelle is gone though. And wow – I can’t believe I’m still talking about this show.

Moving on…

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I had a ton of fun and am soo looking forward to Kelly and Jerry’s wedding in less than 2 weeks! I did eat and drink a bit too much, so it’s back to my training schedule and healthy eating for me this week and hopefully from here on out. Plus, I’m running the NYRR Manhattan Half Marathon on Sunday! I’m excited and nervous. One of my best friends is coming down to run it with me, so that should be fun!

How do you get back on track after a weekend of less-than-healthy living?

I’m kind of easing back into it – Monday wasn’t the healthiest of days as far as eating goes, but I did get in a run and I drank a good amount of water. Today will hopefully be much healthier though.

And lastly, here are a few interesting health stories:

Exercise protects and improves the aging brain

Mediterranean diet protects against stomach cancer

Hope you all have a healthy and happy Tuesday! Yay for short weeks.

  1. I feel like Mondays are still a transition day for me as well… kicking the last of the weekend’s bad habits! Tuesdays are always the healthy fresh start for me!!!

  2. I try to focus on drinking lots of water, like you did, and finding some way of being active. Even if I just walk to and from work after a night of indulgence, I feel better. And hey, it’s 4 miles round trip!

  3. I get sucked into the Bachelor too. I think this season is pretty entertaining at least.

And to get back into healthier habits after a weekend off, I try to be sure to incorporate things that I really really enjoy and that are healthy…not things I ‘should’ eat and would not enjoy. Then it doesn’t feel like a chore 🙂

  4. I knew you would watch it… those shows are worse than crack!!!
I didnt read your whole blog because I DVR-ed it last night and I think you may have a spolier in there!
Ummmm want to come over and watch it next week though:):)!

    • Ooops – sorry if I have a spoiler! I’d definitely come over next week if we could go for a run beforehand? I’m back in training mode – what do you say? 🙂

      • Haha.. I watched it.. so glad that crazy Michelle is gone!
Well you know that I dont really do running with others ;).
However you could run to my place and shower there…?!? Want to map it to my new address? Youd run over the Brooklyn Bridge I think 🙂 actually sounds kinda nice!

  5. I really like the flavored Triscuits, especially the Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato. I know they are not the best health wise, so I bought the Kashi triscuits, garlic flavored, and I haven’t made up my mind about them. Have you tried the Kashi brand?

After a rough weekend, I try to just go back to my favorite not bad foods, yogurt, fruit, etc. I gave pinapple Chobani a try again, and I think you may be right. Did you hear they are making two new flavors, Banana and Raspberry?

    • Yeah, nutritionally, the flavored Triscuits aren’t the best. I haven’t tried the Kashi brand, but I seem to love everything Kashi – so I will have to check them out. I am soo pumped they are making new Chobani flavors (you are totally in the Chobani know) – I think I would like both of those flavors. Can’t wait!

  6. I was in Boston this weekend and the Stop & Shop was selling Chobanis – 10 for $10. I wanted to stock up so badly!! I’m glad your husband was able to bring some back from upstate 🙂

Looks like you had a fun weekend! Keeping my fingers crossed for warm weather in Central Park on Sunday 🙂

    • I was very close to telling him to buy be 40 Chobanis at that price! 😉 I am crossing my fingers for some warm weather (or at least not frigid) on Sunday as well.

  7. lol– when that dark-haired girl got eliminated, my husband and I were both like, “WHO is that?!?” I kind of felt sorry for her!

Looks like great eats— I just found your blog and I’m excited to keep reading!

  8. The chobanis in the capital district have been on sale for months! Next time you are in the area be sure to stock up again 🙂 I have not got sucked into the bachelor this go-round. thankfully- it’s addicting!

  9. Glad you got a day off, lady! Hope you relished every single second of it!

Man, $0.99 chobani sounds like something out of a dream. Or…maybe we’ve just been exposed to overpriced NYC groceries too long. 🙂

Hope you have a great week!
